Civil Engineering is the oldest basic and pioneering branch of engineering. Late Sir M. Visvesvaraya was a civil engineer, who has been awarded nations highest civil award Bharat Ratna for his outstanding services in field of civil engineering. The department offers four year degree course to the students for B.E (Civil) degree. The department has got well equipped laboratories with sophisticated equipments, located in spacious laboratories.

The staff of the department is well qualified, experienced and always keeps themselves abreast with the present technologies and development in the field. Through the Research and Development Cell of the college, the department is providing testing facilities required by the construction industry. It is also providing consultancy in structural designing and by doing so , it had created image of itself in Civil Engg. Industry which greatly helps in placement of students.

Due to huge government spending on infrastructure development, there are ample opportunities of employment for the students of this branch in centre and state PWDs, Military Engg. Services, Railway, Irrigation, Water supply dept. Transport sector, etc, etc. Besides this branch is self employing and also enables the student to get employment in private sector at home and abroad.

Opting this branch as a career of engineering is boon in disguise. This branch is gaining its old glory and is zooming day by day.

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at COET Akola.

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest departments of COET Akola and was established in the year 1985 with an intake of 60 students. Over the past three and half decades, the department has progressed by leaps and bounds and could create its separate identity not only in the region of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. but also in the state of Maharashtra due to its continuous efforts to provide quality education to the students.

At present, the department offers one-degree program in civil engineering at the undergraduate (UG) level, while one M.E. program namely, M.E. Civil Structural Engineering at the postgraduate (PG) level. The sanctioned students’ strengths of the M.E. program are 18 per year. The department has been recognized as a ‘Ph.D. Research centre’ by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. At present, the department has more than 10 PhD scholars while 2 have been awarded Ph.D.  The department has experienced and highly qualified faculty and dedicated staff and has well-established labs equipped with modern equipment. Department of Civil Engineering received the grant from AICT New Delhi for the MODROB-sanctioned scheme for the upgradation of the civil engineering laboratory.

The faculty members of our department have excellent academic qualifications and have been conferred with awards at institutional and national levels. They have representation on the Board of Studies (BoS) of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. The department organizes workshops, seminars, webinars, national/international seminars and conferences independently as well as in joint association with reputed professional bodies. The faculty has published several research papers in national/international conferences and also in various h-indexed Journals.

The department has good connections with industries for industry-institute interaction and for seeking internship and employment opportunities for students. It has signed a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with reputed organizations and it offers consultancy and testing services to various private and government organizations by active involvement of students.

Our department looks forward to providing quality education in civil engineering to aspiring students.

Thank you for visiting us.

Best wishes,
